I have been working at DICK'S Sporting Goods full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Fun culture/environment, get to wear comfortable clothes to work, and you get to surround yourself with something that almost everybody loves.

Cons

Can be stressful (especially around the holidays, but that's to be expected of retail)

Advice to Management

ALWAYS give positive reinforcement. That works best to keep someone like me working hard

I have been working at DICK'S Sporting Goods full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Pay is negotiable and they have yearly reviews of their employees, which often leads to a
    raise
-They are willing to hire people without much experience in the work force
-There is a lot of opportunity for advancement in their high volume stores, such as the San Diego location
-Management is mostly good at this store, but new management comes in about every year as people get promoted
-Store is clean and always looks nice
-You get to wear athletic apparel to work
-The people that work here are all hard workers and fun to work with, not much high school drama to deal with

    Cons

    -The work is not easy
-The store is almost always short staffed and there is always something that needs to be changed or fixed
-It's hard to give everyone immediate customer service due to having so much to do and so little staff
-The corporate guys are always coming in and checking out their stores. There is a lot of pressure put on all of us (managers included)

I worked at DICK'S Sporting Goods full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Opportunities are in place to grow and learn the world of retail.

    Cons

Over the top demand and expectations of not better than minimum wage paying. Upper management, seem to have lost what is like to work at the store and the stress that can endure from working with the public and not having the resources to do better than apologize for store issues rather than make our customers raving fans of the operation and the company when things go wrong.

    Advice to Management

The most important assets of the company are not the inventory for sale but the people who do the selling of them.
