I worked at DIRECTV as a contractor (More than a year)

Pros

Descent benefits and compensation if you're a permanent employee

Cons

Miserable work place for contact positions, ripped, humiliated and no future, you can stay up to six years on a contract and never get a real permanent offer despite promises for employment after a few months...

Advice to Management

DIRECTV Software engineering is a corrupt organization, If you are with the Vietnamese gang in the management, you're all set, otherwise you'll get screwed up... It is an organization in which your contribution and the value you bring to the company doesn't count, what matters is the relations, you can literately do nothing and grow if you're with the gang, or you may stay flat despite great work....

I have been working at DIRECTV full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

DIRECTV has a great focus on leadership and personal development. The leadership team seems to be on the same page for the most part, however the politics to get work done can be overbearing at times. The pay is good for the most part and benefits are great. Free TV is worth its weight in gold and overlooked as a great perk by many.

    Cons

Internal development and promotion opportuinties seem good in higher level positions, but lower level positions don't seem to have the same opportunities. With good pay and benefits comes significant work hours. The work life balance is talked about, but hard to follow.

    Advice to Management

Look more to internal people for promotion opportunities at lower levels. Consider how much the teams are working and balance the "needs of the business" with the "needs of family." We all have families and we want to spend time with them too.
