I worked at DIRECTV full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

DIRECTV has an exceptional leadership development program put in place by very competent future-thinking leaders. The people are top-notch, dedicated to their craft, and are the lifeblood keeping this company going. Pay is good and benefits are excellent.

Cons

Current leadership (below C-Level) seemingly lacks the ability to execute - preferring to constantly strategize. People are left holding the bag.

Advice to Management

Keep it simple. Start with knowing your people - all of them - and understand their needs, ensuring organizational objectives are met with this talent pool. You may think you are doing this - take another look whether you are walking the talk.

I have been working at DIRECTV full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company has a new campus with all the benefits of a small gym with group classes, a cafeteria, and beautiful sunny office buildings.

    Cons

The structure system is very antiquated and extremely corporate. The senior management is very top heavy so the only way to grow and to jump departments. They are also very reactionary and "fire drills" are almost normal.

    Advice to Management

Don't speak down to the people below you. Even if there are mistakes, people still deserve to be treated with respect. Learn to provide constructive feedback and be open minded. Just because a policy has been in place for a while does not mean that it still works. Be open to the lives and balance that people are trying to maintain. Once you seem like you are on their team, not just a boss, then the employee will bend over backwards for you.
