I worked at DRS Technologies full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Great benefits, nice group of employees to work with, involved in the company

Cons

Layoffs each year for last 5 or 6 years due to cuts in Defense Budget, average raises

Advice to Management

Try to proceed with further cuts as you have been by making them as painless as possible on all employees. It is very frightening thing to go threw The severance pay was such life saver don't know what I would have done without it. Thanks again.

    Pros

Some Smart, experienced people willing to freely share their expertise
    Willing to retain skilled employees.
Long-term experience resources in Signal Solutions

    Cons

Defence contracting pace may be underwhelming for some
    Some dead wood
Requires being fully behind company's mission to weather the depleting times.

    Advice to Management

Stronger emphasis on software architecture would benefit
Identifying worthwhile projects and fully enabling them to succeed would boost employee motivation

I worked at DRS Technologies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Not having to work at plant,
    Fun at times
    Work was very challenging

    Cons

They have been doing personnel cut-backs in the hundreds each time.
Very hard to plan on long term employment due to reductions in force
Managers used Florida's right to work status as a constant threat, will fire for no needed reason
    No room for company growth
Jobs are based on who you know, not what you know.
    Very poor communication

    Advice to Management

There has to be a better way to save the company then doing mass layoffs. It not only hurt the company but it also hurts toe surrounding economy.
DRS is turing into the same as surrounding DoD companies who do mass layoffs.
Time to invest in moving into the civilian sector to ry and generate revenue.
