I have been working at DST Systems full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Nearly unlimited possibilities for growth within the company, entry level position provides good foundation on the Mutual Funds/REITS Industry.

Terrific benefits package!

Cons

Position has long hours, very monotonous work, and poor pay. Due to work being processed by "teams" social loafing is wide spread and level of employee at current position tends to be poorly educated with high rate of turnover.

Due to unexpected work flows and associate turnover rate work seems to never end. Overtime is a nightly occurrence and makes it nearly impossible for the associate to "make plans" or have early evening commitments due to this.

Engagement has been a term being used a lot by DST the past year in an effort to improve work-life experience and for employees to in turn be more productive. Unfortunately, in the full service department when work flow is heavy "engagement" is pushed aside and saved for a later date.

Advice to Management

When experiencing heavy workflows the time to push "engagement" is then more than ever instead of pushing it to the side because it is the easy thing to do. If DST is to really change their culture for the better management must lead the way in "engagement" efforts.

Most management in full service at one point was a mutual funds rep, but sometimes it has been 10 years since they were at the position and change has been dramatic in the past decade. Management should solicit more advice from the representatives in daily process improvements.

I have been working at DST Systems full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    1. Finger on the pulse of financial investments and knowledge. 2. Once was in-house training classes to keep you updated on on the software. 3. I enjoyed being downtown KC, their corporate offices - right in the heart of the city and all city activities. 4. use to treat their employees to an annual company picnic and annual holiday gift giving. 5. Corporate discounts are partnering companies 6. I use to love to say that I work at DST systems - there was a sense of pride not shame.

    Cons

    1. Very high stress and demanding career and environment - with tight deadlines. But not half as bad as it has gotten with USA employees training foreign employees to take their jobs. 2. Oncall responsibilities. 3. Traffic getting to work in the mornings. 4. Parking wasn't prime.

    Advice to Management

To the upper executives making all the decisions. I realize that you earn your money and bonuses...but don't be so greedy - think about the employees - think about your country and how outsourcing is taking American jobs - how is that helping us? DST is in a position to make change happen - do what you can to cause taxing and laws to change for the better of your country and countrymen.....Do what is right....help make DST the company it once was - not just financially but as far as having employees love to work for a company that is thinking not just of themselves but of their employees as well. DST is not losing any money - they are making profits - so, they are in a good position to cause change to happen for the interest of the company and the betterment of their employees. Hoping a decision to sale DST is just a rumor and hoping it's not a company like Sprint. DST has always been savvy with their money - please don't let greed takeover.
