I have been working at DSW part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The managers (at my branch) are amazing, the culture is very positive, and I can feel that DSW actually cares, not just about what I think, but also that I'm satisfied at work. Expectations are reasonable but you are also expected to strive toward good work. Coworkers are happy to be there and interact well. DSW will even donate to your charity under certain conditions.

    Cons

It's retail, so the work is sometimes boring, and sometimes horrible. New employee training is good, but seems a little unstandardized: sometimes I was given all the training needed to complete tasks thoroughly, others I had to seek out information that in retrospect should have been provided. But that happens in places where training is done on the job, on the fly, and by multiple managers. Oh, and the register system doesn't allow access to all customer info at all points in the sale, which can cause problems if they have a question later during checkout.

    Advice to Management

Move in-store phone support away from the busy registers. Also, perhaps upgrade to a more robust and data-centric register software package.

    Pros

    Work Life Balance in retail

    Cons

Internal promotes make less than External hires

    Advice to Management

pay the Internals more than the Externals - they have proven their loyalty and live the Values
