I have been working at DaVita full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Forward-thinking organization, employ great people who really care for patients. Opportunity to continuously learn and improve by offering a great deal of online/classroom training.

Cons

Very political - although claim they measure employees based on performance -- it is very subjective. NO WORK-LIFE BALANCE. Lots of turnover.

Advice to Management

Learn to prioritize -- you cannot make everything a priority. Get rid of the managers in place that are creating a negative culture and poisoning an environment that could be really fantastic. The leaders at the top get it and have great ideas, but this does not trickle down to the Group/Divisional management.

I worked at DaVita full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great continuing education opportunities, benefits and fail salary negotiation. Well organized, true to company Mission and Vision statements, offers a realistic tuition reimbursement incentive program as well opportunities to attend 'Academies' which are well rounded, practical, relevant to field and overall culture of living with ESRD.

    Cons

If the chemistry isn't there between an employee and Administration, don't waste time trying to 'fix' whatever malfunction. In some clinics there is a fair share of politics, lack of objectivity and favoritism BUT in others...THOSE are the clinics you'll leave after shifts feeling good about the world.

    Advice to Management

Implement static, SHORT (10 min max) but consistent and on short interval (weekly) 'STOP, START, CONTINUE' TEAM huddles led by charge nurse, mandatory for all staff working that day. Have the FA's stay consistently focused on administrative needs of the clinic by providing Academy invitations to the nursing/direct care/PCT staff independent of FA recommendation; have HQ assign dates and attendees independent of FA recommendation (it'll cut down on clinic turn over allowing each Unit to maintain more cohesiveness preventing people from transferring to different location if 'the going gets tough')

I have been working at DaVita full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great culture, supportive upper management in most respects. It is odd in this company to find someone who is really unhelpful or difficult to work with. They just aren't around long because they fit in so poorly with the overall attitude of the company. It is one of the best places I've ever worked and has more room for advancement than any other I've found.

    Cons

The Redwoods program that guarantees a business major a promotion to Regional Director after a relatively short period of time can affect the morale of those who have come up through the ranks. They tend to be less understanding of the clinical portion of the job, which is essential to understanding the overall functioning of the region. Pay is less than industry standard and is not compensated by the bonuses that are promised at the initial interviews.

    Advice to Management

Reconsider the Redwoods program. Underwrite business degrees for current employees with a larger annual scholarship than the current general scholarship.
