I worked at Dairy Queen part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

First job I ever had. Coworkers were fun to work with, customers for the most part were also fun. Good experience dealing with consumers.

    Cons

For me personally the training was daunting. My first day the manager just stood with me and showed me how to do everything during my shift. I also worked in the evening which is obviously the busiest time. I felt extremely overwhelmed and after close I had to ask if I could leave because I had school the next morning and it was almost midnight. My manager seemed annoyed by this like she couldn't understand why my education was more important to me then my minimum wage ice cream server job. When my manager wasn't there, everything ran smoothly, workers were in a good mood and not so concerned with making minor mistakes, when my manager would come in unannounced the entire energy seemed to drain out of the place and everyone become anxious. From what I understand, she was fired a year after I stopped working there.

    Advice to Management

Better training program, not everyone deals well with being thrown into the Lion's den from the beginning. Understand that high school kids should be focused on their education first and foremost and never keep them later than ten on school nights.

I worked at Dairy Queen part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good first time job
    Good people experience
    Customer service experience
Learning how to work with others
Learning how to work in a fast-paced sometimes stressful environment
    Learn about time management

    Cons

Can be extremely stressful at times
Store management was not the brightest or best
Employees mostly high school students, not the best but what you would expect

    Advice to Management

Tighten up, have values for your store, create and manage guidelines for everyone to follow and have consequences for not following them.
