I worked at Dairy Queen part-time (More than a year)

Pros

The one I worked at was busy all the time, so my shifts usually went by fast. I got a lot of hours and got more money when I worked at night. I liked the people I worked with so I didn't mind being there. I didn't want to be a manager because I was in school, but they did tend to move people up a lot.

Cons

It's food service--lots of cleaning, messy, rude customers. You work hard, especially when the front and drive-thru are busy at the same time. And some of the customers were horrible.

I have been working at Dairy Queen full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I was fortunate to have close connection with the owners, district manager, and other corporate personnel.
    Advancement opportunities.
    Energetic environment.
Acceptance (as a non-conforming female; lesbian)

    Cons

Drama — it is a "high school" job for most, so a little drama is expected (anywhere you go). However, I struggled with management not addressing harassing text messages.
Combined 5 years of service with the same store (took a 2.5 year leave) and was disappointed with no offers for medical insurance; vacation time; etc. as a full-time manager.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your lower employees. The turnover rate can be adjusted if you just listen.

I worked at Dairy Queen part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You get to help make people happy by making them awesome desserts. It's pretty cool learning all the things you have to do in order to make the signature cold treats.

    Cons

Some people just won't become happy no matter what you do. The managers make it better, if you have crappy managers, you have a crappy job.

    Advice to Management

Sometimes people let emotions drive decisions. This applies to regular employees and managers and customers.
