I have been working at Damar Services full-time

Pros

For being a non-stop-profit, they have good benefits, including affordable healthcare coverage. Working with the kids here is rewarding. There are a lot of great people that work here who really care about these kids.

Cons

Lack of communication between staff and upper management at times. Also, dealing with some of the behaviors of the kids' can be tough sometimes.

I worked at Damar Services full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You feel like you make a difference.
Schedule is set meaning you will know the days you work and weekdays only work on weekdays and weekends only work on weekends.
You will love working with the kids.
Lots of diversity at the top.

    Cons

Expect no help from directors when short staffed, they never come on the floor or answer their phones but will put multiple assignments on your shoulders to cover like it's no big deal.
Your whole job can change with no notice, discussion, or training on the new kids.
No weekend or night pay differential.
The best nurses are overworked with no compensation so it's really easy to burn out.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees how you want to be treated.
Help on the floor when there isn't enough nurses on campus even if it's a little bit of help.
Don't ask someone to do something you wouldn't do yourself.
Talk to people the way you want to be talked to.
Showing you care will go along way.
Be a leader and not just a boss.

I worked at Damar Services (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nice, new facility for ABA services in a great location, supervision provided

    Cons

Disorganized, did not provide adequate training, unprofessional program managers. Upper management (ABA) folk are extremely disrespectful; bad for business.

    Advice to Management

Clearly define each employee's respective positions in the organization. This will allow everyone to mind their own business and concentrate on their particular job.
