Pros

The people that work there are great, most managers care about you as a person. There are high standards, but if you do a good job for them everyone gets along well and it is a really fun place to work.

Cons

The people that come in and eat treat you terrible a lot of the time. Management doesn't understand that people come in wanting a free meal a lot of the time. There is nothing we can do to please them.

Advice to Management

Be more patient with the servers. We want the guests happy because it results in better tips. Do not get upset or look down on the people that work for you. Most all of us are working to pay for school.

    Pros

Flexibility, room to advance, health insurance, 401k, legal representation, pet ins. rental discounts... team players, management cohesiveness..our guests are happy my personality is positive which is a plus for me to retain loyal guests. Opportunity to advance.. support from management to excel...

    Cons

Strenuous, stressful, long hours if working a double. Sometimes your positive attitude is challenged when a guests experience is not what it should be.

    Advice to Management

A little more understanding that Server/Bartenders are there for the restaurant & also there to earn income... We are human and do make mistakes. More support for the day/night shift.

    Pros

Good money when you work good shifts at night and on weekends, servers can make 500-700 for a 40 hour week, bartenders 600-800 a week or more depending on resturant/shifts.

Benefits are good but are in the process of being downgraded.

    Cons

Company is shifting to exclusively part-time except for management, rolling out a program where no one will be allowed to move into full-time and only will hire for part-time positions. Obviously to limit the amount the company spends on health benefits, so really the only way to make this into a career would be to join the management team.

Pay was cut as well to all bartenders and bussers in 2011 from at least minimum wage to $5 an hour across the board despite how long the individuals had been with the company, and the wage has been supplemented by making servers tip out mandatory instead of voluntary. This was done the same year the CEO of the company received a 10% pay increase for his own salary.

    Advice to Management

Stop cutting benefits for your employees! Don't follow the part time model of Mcdonalds, Darden was a good company because of the care given to its employees don't do away with that just for additional profits for shareholders, especially when you aren't struggling financially. Many people have made a career out of the service industry, don't limit their ability to do so. People run your restaurant and they should be treated with dignity.
