I worked at Darden part-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

money, food, staff, meals provided for preshift before work

Cons

a lot of side work to do, high maintenance guests, lots of testing, unfair decisions at times

Advice to Management

be fair and realize all blame is not due to employee, but also lack of organization, structure of restaurant and management turning a blind eye

I worked at Darden part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

No sidework! Just doing your own tables.

    Cons

There is unlimited things like salad, soup and sometimes pasta. That can be taxing at times!

    Advice to Management

Our General Manager was fired because he really felt like he owned the store personally. If you called the hotline on him he would make you pay.

I worked at Darden part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The perks to working in a Darden restaurant are that they are capable of working around a school schedule and have set and clear rules so you can fall back on a steady support system if you're having issues.

    Cons

The company seems to attract overbearing managers and there are not a lot of career opportunities or life lessons to learn outside of patience and humility. Nothing you can really boost a resume with until you get to a management position and that can take a long time.

    Advice to Management

I feel like there is a lack of power in the individual restaurant managers' hands. They need to be able to make tough calls and not be afraid that their feet will get held to the fire over it.
