I have been working at Defense Contract Management Agency full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Education Tuition assistance, Benefits, Federal Job, Work Hours

    Cons

Lack of Up-ward mobility, Upper management are "Yes" men and positive change cannot be made due to the Yes attitude. Knowone has the gall to stand up and resist a dumb change that is passed on from HQ. When something is dumb, it's dumb... Doesn't matter who it came from.

    Advice to Management

Give the people in the positions that actually do the job to review and make recommendations of revisions and changes. This agency waste alot of taxpayer money by making changes and then reverting back to old ways because it did not work. Stop trying to force change from the top down and make it a equal effort.

I have been working at Defense Contract Management Agency full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Local Leadership is good, and the agency as a whole is better situated than other 4th estate defense agencies for sequestration and probability of RIFs. However, top agency leadership is retiring so long term outlook is in the air.

    Cons

It is the definition of bureaucracy & the same rules that apply for the private sector are common place in the public service. Networking is key and good work will eventually get rewarded, if you know how to highlight your accomplishments. If not, you can be looking at a long term career doing the same thing for 20 years.

    Advice to Management

Continue crisis management as best as you can do. We are at the mercy of Congress and criticism from the American public & Washington with Beijing & Moscow laughing.
