I have been working at Dell full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great pay in relation to market, work among smart people, large enterprise environment will be exposed to many things over your career, opportunity to take on challenging activities, great company to be a resume builder, you learn quick and time goes by fast.

    Cons

You'll realize over your career you've spent many long hours, nights, weekends sacrificing your personal time and your quality of life for a company that doesn't really care about your career development or progression to where you be stuck doing the same job or at the same grade level but taking on more responsibility over time. Sr. Management does really care about your personal life and expect you to do more with less. Dell wants to run lean and low cost but only makes the worker bees do more and put in long hours with little support of additional resources. Dell re-orgs about every 3-6 months and your manager can change often not allowing you to build a good relationship with them and so you start over often proving yourself over and over which does little to help in your promotions, raises, and bonuses. Unless your in the management path to move up and in the boys club or have relationships you be stuck at the front line as you see others stack on you, otherwise you have a technical role you will be dedicated to always fill wearing multiple hats working long hours.

    Advice to Management

Stop changing the org so often and give opportunities to solidify to grow your people allow them to execute stop being concerned just meeting the next quarter numbers strategically invest in your people processes and technology grow the business by growing your capability not by reorg or changing direction or leaders or focus often. Stop trying to do more with less.
