I have been working at Dell full-time

Pros

There is never a dull day; Dell moves fast and you can try a lot of different areas.

Cons

Sometimes groups are understaffed so you are covering multiple positions.

I have been working at Dell full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great potential to move up, sideways or across from current position. Dell allows you to gain knowledge and expertise to move into new areas if you desire and have the drive to educate yourself.

    Cons

Current manager has weakness in allowing people to violate Dell code of ethics.

    Advice to Management

My current Manager does not necessarily manage well. This manager presumes people have knowledge or expertise and does not offer to help you gain in areas you may be weak. This manager is uber brilliant and does have good skills to include people in various activities/discussions. Unfortunately the manager does not deal well with correction of people,

I have been working at Dell full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good salary. Lots of opportunity for training at Dell (see their free online trainings through MyLearning). Good career development opportunities.

    Cons

Constant layoffs. Dell uses a bell curve for their performance review. This means that a low performance rating has to be assigned to someone on the team, whether they deserve it or not.

    Advice to Management

With the improving economy and better job prospects, Dell may find that they need to do more in the way of bonuses and long term incentive (stock options) to keep employees, especially those at the C2/IH level and below. There are many good people ranked at or below C2/IH. There is not always consistency in the employee's level of experience and contribution compared to the employee category they are in. This lack of consistency should not carry over to the employee's detriment when it comes to bonus and LTI.
