I have been working at Dell full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I've worked with many great team members across the company, and most of the employees that work in the "run the business" teams are tenured and highly competent. The global team members are motivated, want to perform well, and are always looking for opportunities to take more responsibility.

    Cons

Dell puts a lot of weight on meritocracy, but it results in a management team that focuses on internal one-time "wins" rather than development of effective processes & tools - this is why the company feels so immature. As these managers go up the ladder, it becomes clear that they don't know how to run a business.

    Advice to Management

Focus on how your company becomes mature, driving performance through integrated processes and systems. Right now, the under-investment in infrastructure is resulting in a company that cannot execute your strategic plans, regardless of their merit.

I worked at Dell full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

People are impressed by the name of the company.

    Cons

Too many layers of management. Many technical contractors and offshore technical work is of very poor quality that the onshore people must clean up. Many people are dissatisfied by the lack of promotion opportunities. New processes every week that make it impossible to get code into a release.
