Pros

Great place to gain global Project Management experience, and be exposed to Program Management (including budget, roadmap planning), as well as operational (run the business) responsibilities.

Cons

Owning your own career (is needed of course) and strategizing to have a long term career appears to be difficult with the many consistent changes in orgs - you may need to keep demonstrating your abilities for each new manager you have.

Advice to Management

With the assumption of needing to manage our own careers - need to make them manage-able across constant (necessary) organizational changes

I worked at Dell full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Dell has excellent health and wellness benefits and the work life balance is great for working parents. Success at Dell is what you make it, so if you are very self-motivated it is a good place for you.

    Cons

Management manages up, so you will get little help or guidance from your manager. If you want to know anything about the your department, the company overall or future direction, you need to find out for yourself because your manager won't tell you. At present there are a lot of changes to happen to Dell, and everyone is in a holding pattern with little to know understanding of their place in the company or the future direction overall.

    Advice to Management

Communicate down, value your employees and acknowledge their contributions. Keep people informed as to the future direction of the company, make everyone feel invested and essential.

I worked at Dell full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Some of the smartest and most driven people work at Dell. Being surrounded by the best encourages you to be your best. Depending upon the group, great work-life balance is possible. For some, working for Dell is a great!

    Cons

The Dell environment can be cut throat. When working for Dell, remember Dell is in the business to make money and Dell will make business decisions that are not popular with the employees. This means anyone..... no matter the tenure... not matter your last evaluation.... no matter who you know... ANYONE can be laid-off. Business is business. There is no loyalty from the business to the employee.
