I have been working at Dell full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Independence, and ability to shape career. Dell utilizes very few resources thus you get to throw in the hat many different skillsets. If your engineering development its very likely you will get to participate in many other activities.

Cons

Hard to go up the "technical ladder". There are areas where Dell is not so great. There are areas where its really great. There are many islands.

Advice to Management

Have a vision. Show stronger direction as to what you want to accomplish and what you want to take. Have a LONG term focus as opposed to quarter over quarter.

I have been working at Dell full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

People and access to hardware are awesome. Environment and conditions are great.

    Cons

Management out of touch with industry, new ideas never able to come to fruition because they will languish in a "confederacy of dunces" for months. Claim to be a "new startup", couldn't be farther from the truth - the very idea is a perfect example of the disconnect. Seem happy as clams to ship more and more jobs overseas. Quality becoming an afterthought.

    Advice to Management

Current "business model" running off the best talent, seem completely oblivious (ambivalent?) about it. Promote from within instead of constantly hiring from outside. Rising at Dell more dependent on who you know than what you do. Self-proclaimed "meritocracy" is absolute joke.

  2. "Business analysis"
