I worked at Dell full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Work/life balance is amazing - remote/telecommute work is a huge part of the company culture. No drama, a lot of opportunity to work on teams/projects outside of one's business unit. I learned a ton and appreciate my time there.

    Cons

When Dell sees that a worker is good at what he/she does, they like to keep them there. They don't like to promote or advance workers often (or not at all) and their yearly merit pay increases are a joke. I was the top performer on my team and got around 1 - 3% merit increases each year.

The bureaucracy is also insane. If there is a process that isn't working, they pretty much won't do anything to change it. They like to keep the status quo and are dinosaurs in terms of innovation and improvement.

    Advice to Management

Start appreciating the top performers and advance them as they deserve. When pay increases are distributed, may it a percentage that could actually be ahead of inflation and implement the changes your workers are suggesting.

The company is trying to follow IBM's path - and that ship sailed a long time ago...
