    Pros

Talented personnel are Dell's primary asset. If you want to challenge yourself, the level of talent will make you improve yourself. Very competitive environment. If you have the right skill set, there are plenty of career options at Dell. Dell welcomes breadth in jobs and you own your career. Now being on the outside and a student at a top 10 MBA program, I appreciate even more the experience and knowledge Dell gave me.

    Cons

Long hours and work life balance are a challenge. Even though Michael has said the business is turning around, how is Dell innovating and will the innovation continue if they become a leader again? After years of defending manufacturing in the U.S. and being close to the customer, manufacturing is disappearing and moving to Asia and other WW locations. If you are an operations person, forget working at Dell. Your network is extremely important at Dell and if you want to move up in roles, you must develop a strong network.

    Advice to Management

Continue to innovate into new markets. Dell needs to continue to expand its product portfolio. Don't be afraid of risk. The company has been too conservative in the past. Don't punish personnel for taking risk.

  2. "Good place for the young and ambitious"

    Pros

Excellent Compensation package. Many opportunities for learning and growth, especially suited for ambitious and hard working young individuals. Depending of group or area of work, can be also a rewarding experience being exposed to the details of the enterprise, and dealing on a global scale.

    Cons

Must dedicate entire self to the company and management chain in order to succeed and impress enough to gain promotions. Involves long hours and sometimes tedious work. Not totally inspiring and not particulary rewarding for indivualistic types.

    Advice to Management

Spend more time getting to know their employees and team better. Provide better coaching and career development guidance early on. Facilitate job rotations, so as to avoid employess in a stale situation over time.
