Pros

There is a great deal of opportunity for growth. The name doesn't hurt - when considering "growing" your resume. The work is wonderfully challenging - and provides exponential professional growth.

Cons

Work/life balance is difficult to achieve. The travel can be a bit cumbersome. Deloitte is also quite level-driven - meaning that those who are at lower levels don't have as much opportunity to be "heard".

Advice to Management

Continue to work on being more cognizant of the strain put on your employee's personal lives - allow your people to try to balance a personal life with work requirements.

    Pros

Deloitte is a great place to start your career. Good entry salary. Many talented, intelligent people. Many steps are taken to work and mentor individuals.

    Cons

Lots. A job well done is considered consistently working 60+ hours. People won't take the time to TRAIN their staff, as there's no where in the budget for it. Budgets are unreasonable and while it's always said to never eat time, people expect you to eat time on their jobs. Need more staffing resources. Pay is decent, but can do better in industry. "Ideally" you are supposed to work the most hours your senior years, but that's never the case. Managers consistently work more than seniors, senior mgmt more than managers, and partners more than senior mgmt. Frustrating environment overall.

    Advice to Management

I read a Deloitte quote once that said 'live the story you want to tell.' I question how many in sr. mgmt could say they actually are doing it. Life's too short, have some perspective on your job and what is being demanded on you and what you are demanding of others.

    Pros

Great place to start working in the consulting industry. A very good brand name to have on your resume. It does help in many of your future opportunities.
A very diversified practice that provides you with many opportunities to grow and learn outside of your area of focus or expertise. Additionally, the large gamut of services provided by the firm help you if you in difficult financial times especially if you know the right people and can position yourself successfully.
Partners seem to be reasonably intelligent people who can offer you leadership to look forward to and emulate.
The consulting practice is well respected in the market place and is a great learning ground to understand the modus operandi of the consulting world.

    Cons

Very large practice, so you do get typecast in your area. It takes a lot of effort and networking (almost like joining a new firm) to be able to switch industries or practices.
The compensation and promotion processes are not the best and do not necessarily reward merit equally. The raises especially during promotion years are very sub par. I did realise I was being grossly underpayed.
Financial services practice in consulting does not have a large variety of banking and capital markets projects - so if you want to be involved in trade processing projects or strategic for BCM operations, you may not get many good work assignements. The flipside is that the retail banking and insurance side is very mature and you do get some good projects in that arena.
Lots of travel does get tiresome after a bit.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to compensation and employee reward scheme.
