I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

Great Broad experiences within your field, Opportunity to make a good income at a young age, Flexibility to step up and lead if you're willing

Cons

Work Life Balance, Lots of management that can make a pretty powerpoint but limited in depth experience, Year end and project ratings very subjective

Advice to Management

Take care of your top performers with higher salaries. The motivation to stay with the firm after years of top performance is lacking due to the knowledge that someone would be hired from the outside with a higher salary.

I worked at Deloitte full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Good benefits (25 days of PTO)
    - Good name to put on resume
    - Easy to negotiate a sign-on bonus but you'll be stuck in a 2 year lock-in before you can leave without paying it back.

    Cons

    - Horrible pay for experienced hires. Recruiters were hard to negotiate with but if you're a 22 year old undergrad starting, they'll pay you $70-75k + $10k bonus.
-Expect to work a TON OF EXTRA hours to earn a "good" year-end review. This means project work AND 200+ hours of firm contributions, proposal writing efforts, and recruiting/volunteer efforts. The raise at the end of the year isn't worth the immense amount of nights & weekends you'll be working. The score/raise isn't guarantee because you're compared to your peers.
-They don't put you on a project so you can utilize your skill sets and experience. I'm an experienced software tester and they had me on a PMO project scheduling meetings & writing meeting mins. (paper pushing!)
-They just want bodies on a contract to burn money. Senior mgmt is really obvious in that they don't care about you or the team.
-They speak about mobility and being able to switch projects....nope. Not as easy as it sounds and is all politics. They expect you to "tough it out" or "suck it up" because you're new.
-If you've got a technical background and don't want to be in sales/marketing (getting Deloitte to win contracts), then you're seen as less valuable.

    Advice to Management

Care about your people - they are your intellectual talent!! Don't get them burnt out and be a firm that DOES things rather than be paper pushing pretending to do real work. Hire talent to run SUCCESSFUL projects. Don't win contracts and have failed projects as a result. It's embarrassing.

I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Travel perks (exposure, air miles and hotel points)
    - Wide range of clients and projects
    - Good reputation in the professional community

    Cons

    - Not as much opportunity for employees select projects based on their skillset and goals as I would have liked
    - Career advancement tied too closely to inter-company relationships and not closely enough to project performance

    Advice to Management

Develop a process that allows professionals to select their projects more. Oftentimes, for every project that someone didn't want, there was another professional that really wanted it. Design a process that better identifies and optimizes this process and your will minimize turnover while maximizing project performance.
