I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Diversity of people and projects
Structure and rigor in many aspects of the firm
Culture of mentorship
Clearly defined path towards promotion

Cons

Lack of flexibility with job responsibilities
Long hours without overtime
Performance evaluations are done exclusively by 2 people, one who is a level above, and one who is 2 levels above. The evaluation does not account for the perspectives of peers or those below, which leaves little incentives to help anyone other than your first and second level reviewers.

Advice to Management

Create a 180 Degree Performance evaluation structure to create more accountability toward those on a lower level and those at the same level. Peer evaluations should be a more impactful factor in performance evaluations and year-end reviews.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Good travel opportunities
    - Work with smart individuals, might even pick up a technical skill along the way
    - Paid better than most people in consulting, but wide variation for people at the same level can bread resentment
    - Great place to start your career
    - Flexible to move around either in career or location

    Cons

    - Mediocre when it comes to tech delivery
    - No one cares how good you are at your job, it's all about your network
    - Expectations to do 'firm activities' are ridiculous
    - Operates like a sorority (petty, people are overly sensitive). People have a high need to be liked.
    - Poor review process (everyone rates themselves first in the review process and guess what? - everyone thinks they're great)
    - Leadership is overly optimistic and will talk about how great the company is doing and how there is so much opportunity in the pipeline, but come salary/bonus time you'll see that all of a sudden there is more uncertainty.
    - Huge resistance to challenge people in authority. Sr. Manager is the weakest level - don't expect much in terms of delivery or for them to stand up to a partner or client.
    - Not a place for people who want to do a good job and be rewarded for it. You need to constantly be unselling yourself and skills. (i.e. if you can spell SAP - just put it on your resume) and doing firm activities no matter how little effort you put into it just to say you did it.

    Advice to Management

    - Don't rely on other people's opinions, form your own
    - HR made me want to quit before I started. Luckily most of the company isn't like that.
    - Stop telling people at QSMs that you're working to get more work/life balance. People appreciate honesty. Just tell them they'll be on 3/4/5 schedules forever.

    Positive Outlook
    Approves of CEO

I worked at Deloitte as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Fun project work
     - A lot of networking opportunities
     - Many resources for achieving your goals (internal)
     - At least three mentors that help you along the process
     - All travel is paid for and you get a corporate account (all interns do)
     - Really consistent HR relations and outreach - everyone will always know you by first name
     - Excellent accessibility to upper management - very flat

    Cons

    - It was a very short program, only two weeks
     - Not many networking opportunities with Ivy League grads/MBAs (smaller representation than the top 3 consulting firms)
