No opinion of CEO

I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than a year)

Pros

- Company if filled with smart, genuine people
- Like peers, compensation is very generous (if you don't do the hourly math)

Cons

- As a junior-mid level staff, client work (and subsequently career trajectory) is highly luck dependent
- There is really no concept of work-life balance; you need to eat, sleep, breathe Deloitte (and be happy doing so) to succeed
- Performance management has become somewhat de-humanized to account for size of organization

Advice to Management

Spend as much energy retaining staff/supporting new hires as you do attracting them to the firm

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Wonderful infrastructure. Incredible number of smart colleagues keep you at the top of your game. A great place to learn. They spend a lot of money on training & development. Take advantage of it!

    Cons

As you move up the chain of command, you discover that your success is NOT tied to your skills or ability, but, rather, it is tied to your political connections, and ability to connect with the "right" partners. (not necessarily the "best", but the most powerful & politically influential). Deloitte's business is run by a small group of very powerful partners, at the top of the "pyramid"; where they protect themselves by rewarding bad behaviors and promoting the politicians. Innovation and "out-of-the-box thinking" are not rewarded, and barely tolerated, particularly by "staff". For them "innovation" means coming up with a new template design, or figuring out a way to charge the client for more "stuff".

Over the last 5 to 6 years, Deloitte has lost its "soul". They charge high prices and are more interested in "check-the-box" work, than in delivering true value to their clients.

    Advice to Management

Truly re-examine your business values; All the platitudes and flowery language at the top is absolutely meaningless to the people in the trenches actually doing client delivery. Long-time clients are abandoning "you"; time to truly understand why.
