Pros

People I work with are very supportive and very team orientated. Most people (partner to analyst) always has time to meet and talk with you just about anything - work, personal, music, sports, etc. Most of the people I've met come from quite diverse professional backgrounds and hence can provide multiple perspectives on the work we do.

Cons

Partners and senior managers do have favourites - which means that if you don't know how to navigate the politics, your career will progress more slowly compared with the "chosen few". Certain partners are not inspiring, and in some cases exhibit some of the worst leadership qualities imaginable.

Advice to Management

Chose people wisely for partnership - there are the main reasons why people stay (and leave) Deloitte

    Pros

Quite simply the knowledge capital in this Firm is huge, so as a consultant you have acccess to everything from quals to thoughtpieces to whitepapers and methodologies. Also, if you have an interest in a particular area, you can simply register this and get involved either via client work but usually via internal projects (PD). Deloitte is a great name to have on your CV and their consultants have a very good business understanding.

    Cons

The hours can be long due to having to work on client chargeable projects and internal projects (pd) at the same time. It is very competitive and sometimes (but not always) an undeserving person gets promoted. There is an element of internal politics and the partners do have their favourites.

    Advice to Management

There almost seems to be a two tier system at Deloitte - practioners who have come up through the ranks and really know their stuff and experienced hires who are not so bright but have a key technical skill. Deloitte SM need to manage this balance and make sure that there are not too many of the latter.
