I worked at Department of Energy & Climate Change part-time

    Pros

    - Interesting and highly relevant work, linking the problems of energy and climate change together under one Secretary of State.
    - Challenging work and passionate staff.
    - Generally good civil service rules and HR team who were supportive of working part time.

    Cons

    - Management were not all good quality. Working to Ministers can be difficult, especially when some were climate change-sceptics in a dept that aims to tackle the problem.
    - Work-life balance could be poor and staff morale suffered.

    Advice to Management

    - Better communication to staff and protection from constant restructurings. Though ultimately the dept was abolished and merged into the Dept for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy in July 2016.
