Positive Outlook

I have been working at Detroit Zoological Society full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

The Detroit Zoo is a great place to work. It has a team atmosphere and the staff is very nice. The benefits package is awesome also! There are zoo days for the staff where you can sign up to have an experience with the animals (feed them, etc.). It's very cool!

Cons

I honestly don't have any cons to list. The only one for me is that my commute is too long :(

    Doesn't Recommend

I worked at Detroit Zoological Society full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fun environment to take a break from the day to day grind. Lots of PTO (if you can use it). Everyone receives a raise annually (enjoy the extra $20/paycheck - what a joke!).

    Cons

Crazy hours, lots of weekends. No room for advancement. HR lies about flexibility and career growth. Don't expect to enjoy any holidays because they are already open. Leadership is overpaid, and does little to no work. CEO treats the Zoo like his personal playground and treats staff like slaves.

    Advice to Management

Realize that the people in your that do the work need to be compensated accordingly. Leadership compensation needs to be examined.

Also, how about you close during the coldest parts of the year. 362 days a year is a bit much.
