Pros

Great culture and atmosphere. Devon also has a great training program for engineers.

Cons

Micro-management is an issue with some groups but not all. Company is loyal to employees, but sometimes seem hesitant to make changes when it is warranted.

Advice to Management

Allow professionals to do their job, and avoid micro-management by managers.

I have been working at Devon Energy full-time

    Pros

    -Bonus
    -Ability to purchase vacation time
    -Valuable work experience
-Good Values! Devon wants good people!

    Cons

-9 hour work day (imposed 1 hour lunch break)
-Poor management in some main departments, no sense of open communication or leadership (you will seek them out, not the other way around)
    -Sniper method of firing people
-Opportunity to advance if someone passes away, retires or is fired.
-10% opportunity to use your real skills and knowledge
-lots of gossip (mainly due to the fact of poor leadership by management and leaders)

    Advice to Management

On behalf of many employees, please change something. Get more management if there is too much work. Stop spending money on promoting healthy living, and focus on creating a healthy environment to work in. Maybe then the people that are hired wont get sick, and tired or go nuts and retire early. Boost morale! make your people feel like they are important and welcome, not like they may get fired if they don't flash a fake smile. Let people be themselves. They will like it I promise!

    Pros

Wonderful technology team! Great IT leadership. fabulous new facility in downtown oklahoma city, pride of the State of Oklahoma. Perfect employer-employee relationship.

    Cons

A hint of bureaucracy, but that's expected in a company this size. The company is going through a transition at this point, and my guess is once that's complete, the bureaucracy & red-tape will only diminish.

    Advice to Management

Hire the best people for the job, like you always have. Allow technology to be an enabler while staying focused on the core revenue streams - liquids & gas.
