I have been working at Dillard's part-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

1.If you meet your sales goals and work hard Dillard's is an ok place to work. Retail is not for everyone.
2.If you are competitive and goal oriented you will do well working here.
3.25% Employee Discount, why shop anywhere else? Merchandise is top notch.
4.New employees receive one time 50% off anything they need for work.
5.It is important to gain good rapport with your customers and staff this establishes a bit of loyalty, so be likable.
6.Many insensitive programs to earn extra bucks, do diligence pays off.
7.If you work a holiday you get paid time and 1/2 and earn another day off with pay.

Cons

1.You must have thick skin, competition is fierce, and turn over is high. Management is always looking for the next best thing to replace you.
2.Having a sales goal means you better reach your goals or your out. This means learn your merchandise and open credit apps.
3.Vacation is earned by number of hour worked, for every hour you work you get 1/2 hour of vaca time.Become informed.
4.Being on your feet constantly is hard on the body, so be sure to use that 50% one time discount to buy good shoes.
5.No vaca allowed between Nov 15th-Jan 15th. Prime selling time. No fun with family. You'll be missed at the family reunions.
6.Benefits are expense and not very good. If you have options with a spouse or parent opt out for now.

Advice to Management

Reevaluate how you pay your Business managers, and don't make them sell, this is unfair to them and the sales associates. Treat them well and they will give you their loyalty.

    I worked at Dillard's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There is no shortage of hours and you can work your way up so that you can get management experience

    Cons

They don't pay equally and some people will be told they are making 17hr to only find out that they have to have a pay cut. The managers do not get paid well and they take it out on you. People get fired daily, which causes stress.

    Advice to Management

I think that everyone should be required to go to a retreat because there is way too much gossip. Also stop making women wear heels for Bill, its kind of disturbing and almost like you try to sell something I can't say on here when the CEO is around. I think respect is key though and not making employees compete against each other. Stop making pay cuts and firing daily; it causes a chain reaction and makes people worry so much that they can't do their jobs properly.

I have been working at Dillard's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

As long as you sell, you'll go far.

    Cons

Politics run the environment . Think of the game Big Brother.

    Advice to Management

ASM's are pretty locked in. The have strict orders from upper management . It's the big guys upstairs that run the show.
