    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Discovery Communications full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Shows are good every now and then, but its been more misses than hits due to short term planning and profit driven decision making.

    Cons

Senior management is all about money and inept when it comes to media production. Constant shifts in decision making like what's occurring with OWN. Management is clueless about non-fiction media.

    Advice to Management

Board of Directors may be better off replacing Zaslav and his minions. This guy came from NBC... now a last place network.

I worked at Discovery Communications full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits and compensation were good. Management had a lot of nice perks for employees like exercise programs, community outreach, great location, onsite health center, good training facilities. On the whole a nice place to work. Many great people.

    Cons

The industry is very changing and job security is never guaranteed. There is also plenty of office politics but there are few places you can avoid that. Some departments had better managers than others, so one's experience can be heavily affected by who your boss is. There were lots of stressed out people, though I had a good boss.

    Advice to Management

Upper management changed when I was there and new management eliminated my department. TV industry is going through many changes and challenges right now. Business model is in flux. I don't envy them.
