I worked at Discovery Communications full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Smart, creative people. There are a lot of really talented programmers at Discovery, and they deliver results for the networks.

Cons

CEO David Zaslov comes from the GE school of management where those who don't move up are "pruned" from the organization. This happens frequently, which can be un-nerving for some.

I worked at Discovery Communications as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Well, I can say that it was good and it was bad. The good was that it was a great opportunity to work with a great group of people. Discovery offers a great mix of a corporate and fun environment.

    Cons

The bad were the working hours with a lack of flexibility to be able to work alternate hours. Also, all of the people who are in important manager or director positions are not that great.

    Advice to Management

Some of you have no business being in management. If you are going to be in management please get educated on how to effectively and productively manage a human being.

I worked at Discovery Communications full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Smart, talented people who are passionate about creating very engaging, quality content. State of the art studio and access to tons of great resources.

    Cons

Lots of layers to pass through during approval process. Some processes are so ingrained that it's hard to effect meaningful change. Could use some perks.
