I worked at Disney Parks & Resorts full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Variety of roles, education opportunities, co-workers, being surrounded by talented people you wouldn't necessarily meet in a different industry, attention to safety for the Guest and over the years seeing this becoming a priority for their Cast Members also, free admission into the Parks

Cons

Rate of pay for many is lacking for what is expected of them (not so much as issue for my particular role)

Advice to Management

Pay rate for Cast Members on the frontline that deal with the Guests needs to be addressed, unlike the 'old days' if don't have a degree it's the perception amongst non-salaried Cast members that you don't have not as much of an opportunity to advance, no matter the years of experience. Bottom dollar/overextending the 'Disney' name has become more important over the last 15 yrs than taking care of your existing Cast i.e., rate of pay, Cast celebrations being cutting back, etc. which in turn has created a negative attitude amongst even the loyal Cast that has been with you for multiple years and otherwise love working there.

I have been working at Disney Parks & Resorts as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

-Exposure to a unique industry and leader in the industry
-Ability to present projects to upper management.
-Great perks (park admissions and discounts, special events, etc.)
-Resume booster (other companies really admire Disney experience)
    -Great coaching/mentorship program

    Cons

-Pay is lower than at other companies for entry-level positions
-Very structured and some unnecessary training components
-Red tape that comes with being at a large company (Disney look and such)

    Advice to Management

Get rid of unnecessary training classes. Skills are learned on the job anyway.

I worked at Disney Parks & Resorts part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Park admission - 16 times per year for your guests and unlimited for you. If you are seasonal it is 6 times fpr your guests. Shopping at Company D and Cast Connection. Getting to peak behind the magic. Opportunity to work with people from all over the country and college program kids from all over the world.

    Cons

Management - some good, some bad but few great. Very hard physical labor - standing on your feet 8 - 10 hours with the sun beating down on you plus some of the costumes are really hot !! Pay is terrilble, but it's Disney. Don't work at your favorite park, as some of the pixie dust is lost when you are backstage.
