I worked at Disney Parks & Resorts as a contractor (More than a year)

Pros

The perks of working at Disney is the free admission to parks, discounts from merchandise to hotels. Disney is also a great company to work for.

Cons

Very few cons - mainly working conditions such as the heat in Florida, but this obviously isn't an issue with the company. In terms of working within the company for such a short period of time (12 months) one con would be the fact that some managers changed location which is good for progression in the company, however as an employee it was more beneficial to try and get used to the working style of 2 or 3 of the same managers.

I have been working at Disney Parks & Resorts part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great job positions and opportunities if you talk to the right people

Amazing perks with discounts, admission, and sign-in privileges

Depending on the department - really good flexibility with scheduling (varies greatly)

Where you can make a ton friends and acquaintances or... (see cons)

    Cons

Communication, communication, communication. It is one of the worst traits this company has with its cast members, primarily with management and lead staff and the crew as well as in between departments.

Extreme asinine safety rules that are continually added on almost a monthly basis - prohibits efficiency for the job and often gets in the way, especially when most of the "problems" have never been problems for decades or ever.

Also from the pros - scheduling can be very sketchy with flexibility and time off depending on which department you work. Some are much better than others.

(from pros)... you can make some great enemies. Lots of disgruntled and unhappy cast members, especially at the entry level jobs.

Seniority may not exist for part-time cast members depending on the union, its contracts, and policies. Favoritism is a big problem in some departments.

Pay is not great. Especially the raises and promotions. Been there over 7 years and barely got a 2 dollar raise in that time.

    Advice to Management

There needs to be better communication. The training, seniority rules, and procedures very badly needs to be better taught and relayed to the employee.

  2. "Good learning ground, but difficult to get promoted"

    Pros

Great brand. Feels good to help families take vacations that you know they'll enjoy. Smart C-level leadership, good travel/park discounts

    Cons

Promotion is slow. Very political. No training programs (sink or swim). Leadership (coaching and developing others) is not valued. Often people are promoted even when it is commonly known that they mistreat subordinates.

    Advice to Management

Put people first. The rest will follow.
