Pros

Everyone is talented (read: smart) and energetic, including the non-technical team members. As with most startups this size, there are virtually no politics. There are even virtually no technical "religions" espoused by the founders, being mostly a meritocracy.

Cons

Perhaps not entirely inappropriately, it's amateur hour. For someone with experience, it can be frustrating to see basic mistakes being made, like premature optimization concurrent with delaying investment in infrastructure until there's a "fire drill" every week. The facilities, lacking hot water, air conditioning, or ADA compliance, as well as administration and benefits, reflect a similar leanness of competence. The technical work is boring for all but the most junior engineers, as evidenced by a high turnover rate of the early non-founder technical employees.

Advice to Management

Delegate the less important decisions and duties. Don't take VCs' technical advice, but, rather, use their connections to other companies with experience to get that input. Focus. Communicate the big events, like financing to employees.

    Pros

Great culture! Very friendly company and everyone is friends with each other outside of work. The office is cool, couches are comfy, and the food is delicious.

    Cons

Some teams are a bit disorganized and it can be difficult to get joint tasks done.

I worked at Disqus full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Amazing, happy people with an average of 3+ years at the company
    - Too much delicious food
    - Great product and well known across tech
    - Comfortable, bright office with windows everywhere
    - Unlimited PTO means unlimited PTO, with most people taking 3-4 weeks off minimum

    Cons

    - Sometimes being too comfortable results in a lack of motivation
    - A few of the elder folks need a fire lit under their butts
    - Unlimited PTO can lead to too many days out of the office when trying to get things done

    Advice to Management

The newer regime has been a great boost to the company production and morale. Don't let folks who are standing in the way, or talking louder than everyone else, control the people trying to get s--t done.
