I have been working at Dollar General part-time (More than a year)

Pros

Flexible Schedule, friendly customers, friendly local management

Cons

Upper management will not see to it that things are fixed (or that we have AC) and expects too much of my local managers, its a dead end job, minimum wage

Advice to Management

    Pros

Good company overall and with the right focus could do much more. Pay is ok, vacation ok, and the type of work is typical.

    Cons

Constant worry about labor and labor reductions. Too often does someone get yelled out for spending too much labor. If things were done correctly there would be 20 to 30 more hours of labor per store per week.

    Advice to Management

More people = less shrink and greater sales.

I worked at Dollar General full-time

    Pros

Easy job, flexible hours, lots of friendly regular customers who get to know the cashiers well.

    Cons

Unless you're willing to hurt people to advance, your job is a joke. Management refuses to address employee problems, fully support workplace bullying and discrimination, play the blame game rather than actually solving problems, and base their opinions of employees on personal attachments or rumors they hear rather than your actual skill or work ethic. Absolutely no team work. High turnover. Toxic work environment where you'll never advance unless you gossip and make everyone else look worse than you. Stay away for your sanity's sake.

    Advice to Management

Stop making it personal, and try actually following your policies instead of just hiding behind them when it's convenient. You're losing good workers all the time and you don't even care; it's just someone else to blame and gossip about when people get fed up.
