I have been working at Dollar General part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Customers are good, the job is easy and the mission is straightforward. Job is usually fast-paced.

    Cons

Everyone is part-time except management. District managers and above expect miracles with minimal staff per shift.

    Advice to Management

Allow one more person per shift to keep the bigger stores looking good and running smoothly. Consider adding lanes to checkout instead of tiny counters in the bigger, busier stores. Facilitate customer feedback, do away with ridiculous "basket size" program, and allow cashiers to have more register control for returns, voids, price changes, etc. It slows things down a lot to call a manager for everything. The manager is busy enough as it is. Stop making the employees feel like the upper management is blaming them for all shrinkage. If you train good cashiers, you will reduce shrinkage. If you allow one more person per shift, you won't have as much shoplifting.
