I worked at Dollar General full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There is upward mobility due to growth of stores.

    Cons

The biggest complaint I heard was that the employees felt they worked harder for less money than at other retailers. Full-time is less than 40 hours so that you do not get overtime, unless an emergency arises.

I worked at Dollar General full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

friendly atmosphere with associates and customers

    Cons

no work/life balance, managers expected to work ungodly hours, manager pay is NOT competitive, manager is held accountable for all shrink, including District Manager mistakes, distribution center mistakes, and trucking/shipment mistakes. Company hires outside company for promotion before promoting from within. All upper management plays favorites and does not listen to store level managers or associates. Company does not have the interests of their associates at heart. They treat all store level associates, including manager like thieves. There is never enough payroll to get work done. High turnover rate, poor pay, stores always understaffed.

    Advice to Management

Find people who care about those that work for you at the lower level, quit being greedy. Quit taking employee suggestions as your own and not giving credit to those to which it is due. Pay your associates better and staff the stores better to control shrink.
