I have been working at Dollar Tree full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

OK pay for the industry. Bonus is based off monthly sales performance.

Cons

Fast paced. Lost of changes that keep you guessing what they truly want. Politics has gotten worse over the years that I have worked there.

Advice to Management

Stop with the cookie cutter approach that it well work in all stores. You have to work in several store volumes. Work side by side with a store manager or as one you would really see that some of your plans would not work on all levels.

I worked at Dollar Tree part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - It's not hard to get hired as there are almost constant associate positions available.
    - The people you work directly with are usually pretty good.
    - Flexible schedule (usually)

    Cons

    - Paid minimum wage.
    - Expected by DM to run register and throw freight in a 5 hour slot with no help on register.
    - No protection from customers. "The customer is always right!" Never given a chance to give your
    - DM and higher are never satisfied with the effort put in and often change their minds back adn for about what they want done in the store. Constant contradictions.
    - Never any back-up cashiers. Once in a while there was one extra person on registers on Saturday's but that was rare unless a holiday.

    Advice to Management

    - Listen when an employee tries to give their side of an issue instead of steamrolling them over.
    - Appreciate the employees that actually stick around. You loose the good ones by not caring.

I worked at Dollar Tree part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Bonus, everything is a dollar ,working with the public

    Cons

Not making enough money in Management position for all the responsibility that you have . Understaffed all the time where you have to work on your lunches all the time.

    Advice to Management

My advice to upper Management train your store Managers to follow company policy period ,you have some that think they own their store and do whatever they want. More Micro Managing would be a great place to start some of the Salaried Managers don't even work their hours and some of them even steal and take gifts from Vendors. Double Standards and favoritism especially in the one that I worked at. Bully Boss and no idea about people skills at all.
