I worked at Duke Energy full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Great opportunity to advance if you put in the hard work it may happen if you know the people to contact. Many people moved from Customer Service to other Corporate positions within the company within 4 years.

Cons

The on call, all hands on deck approach when there are at home agents is not the most ideal. A lot of people travel a great distance to get to the office and in the snow and ice of the carolinas-it is hard to justify risking your life to repeat to people what the VRU( Virtual Response Unit) is saying prior to them reaching you.

Advice to Management

Add more at home agents and use them for on call storm situations. Get rid of the politics of advancing and give some loyalty to the people who have put in some time.

    Pros

Good benefits, good work environment, and salary.

Starting pay was way too low during the 9 month probation period.

    Advice to Management

Pay based on experience and education level as you are losing out there.

    Pros

If you get hired as an engineer at Duke Energy, you will have a job as long as you want one. This work is very suitable for family-oriented individuals looking to stay in the same place for a long time. If you are willing to stick around for 5-10 years, promotional opportunities will present themselves as long as you perform on a high level.

    Cons

Not much travel opportunities. Promotional opportunities are few and far between. The salary is below industry averages for similar work.

    Advice to Management

Embrace employees looking to diversify their knowledge base.
