I have been working at Duke University full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Great environment with the university and its resources.

Cons

Some labs can be very small with very few people. May not be the best for those who like a younger environment.

    Pros

Great opportunities to grow and change positions for internal candidates. There are many wonderful benefits (discounts for local vendors, cheaper insurance, flexible scheduling, paid holidays)

    Cons

While there are many opportunities for growth, financial gains for changing positions are considerably less than what outside individuals are offered when coming into Duke.

    Advice to Management

    More awards and bonuses.

I have been working at Duke University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Duke tries to be pro-active with helping employees with things like commute cost, health insurance, etc. Graduate students have official advocates on staff. Fairly liberal compensation policies, and a stable workplace feel. Accommodations for kids, etc. Pets are allowed as long as one is responsible for them.

    Cons

The impression among staff is that pay and promotions are somewhat stagnant. Hard negotiators and up-and-comers would be loathe to work here unless they are in upper management. Parking is always an issue.
