I worked at Duke University full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I was working with a world class scientist as my adviser in Duke. Good salary and reasonable benefit. Staffs in the university are helpful. You can find good daycare for baby.

    Cons

Parking is limited and quite far away from buildings. The whole university emphasis bio related research too much that other departments get not enough support.

    Advice to Management

Try to support other subjects other than bio more.

I worked at Duke University full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Duke actually has good benefits for grad students - insurance, gauranteed maternity/paternity leave and vacation (unusual for PhD students).

    Cons

long hours, no direction, little career development, no feedback

    Advice to Management

Give PhD students more career guidance, more feedback, make time-to-PhD smaller
