Disapproves of CEO

Pros

in general they don't work you too hard. mostly because decision making is so concentrated that it takes a while to get anything approved.

Cons

senior management does not understand the business and has no interest in growing it.

senior management is evaluated and compensated completely differently than rank and file, yet they claim to teamwork as a core virtue...go figure

Advice to Management

retire and get someone in there that can save the business before you completely drive it into the ground...or sell it to someone else that cares.

"D&B's Core Competency -- Expense Cuts and Headcount Reduction"

    Pros

D&B is a near-monopoly with a strong competitive advantage in the underlying data it uses to create its business database. While the business is currently limited to Risk Management Solutions, Supply Management Solutions and Sales & Marketing Solutions, this business can extend into many areas that are yet untapped. Pay is generally higher here than for similar jobs elsewhere. There are a lot of smart, fun folks working here too.

    Cons

Good times and bad, D&B is in a constant state of reorganization, cost cutting and headcount elimination. It's typical to average a new job role every 9 months and to have a new direct leader every 6 to 9 months. Roles that involve management of projects are riddled with project starts, stops, and restarts as part of the ongoing expense management. D&B is a place where your individual results are less important than how you present yourself. It takes a while to figure it out, but it's sort of a dilbert-land, where if you're checking off completed tasks you're a winner -- even if they were the wrong tasks to begin with. Messages from senior management are full of hypocritical double-speak, but many folks are unable to see it.

    Advice to Management

Energize the company with a true vision that is inspiring -- x% revenue growth, __ Customer satisfaction score and __ Employee Satisfaction score don't create an emotional reaction. Something like "D&B will be at the center of every commercial transaction globally" or "$3B in 3 years" could go a lot farther. Also, double-skip-level meetings would help the good ideas bubble up. Folks one and two levels below the top are afraid to speak up when the tasks and plans are the wrong ones to pursue in the first place.

    Pros

Awesome business model, some very prestigious clientele, changing financial times and new technologies

    Cons

    Micro managing boss
Stops you at door and asks "Why are you leaving so early"!
Do a fantastic job, and it's a "silent acknowledgement" Mess up just once and it's almost a public rebuke, reminds you of your High School Principal pulling up on an errant kid.

    Advice to Management

Run a company, not your High School.

Steve, stop selling company stocks ahead of quarterly results, sends out a bad signal, you know ?!
