I worked at E. & J. Gallo Winery as an intern (Less than a year)

Pros

They're a fascinating company with a great "family" feel at the work place. Everyone is friendly and considerate. The projects within your department are interesting and valuable to the company.

Cons

Modesto is not my favorite city to say the least.

Advice to Management

Ensure a little more opportunities for interns across departments to interact.

    Pros

Strong name on your resume, easy to move out of the company. Well respected training program, and strong first job

    Cons

WORST management skills, at times verbally abusive. Unless you do exactly what they want they will start to phase you out. They get away with a lot of shady business practices because they are privately held.

I have been working at E. & J. Gallo Winery full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good benenfits and definitiely a growing industry. Family owned and no stock holders to worry about and hostile take overs. Offers a challenging and secure opportunity.

    Cons

Middle management is challenged by inexperienced leadership and poor decision making. The culture is drastically different across different areas / departments of the company. Though relationships are important to success in any business or professional position, the people at this company love to form impressions and there is alot of rumors that run throughout the business about employees. Sometimes good and sometimes bad. It is a slowly accepting environment that is difficult to break into and get to know and suffers a trust deficit for building trust amongst its employees.

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach and treat people the way you wish to be treated! Dont handicap individuals and not allow them to make decisions - otherwise known as micromanagement.
