Pros

Training is primo. Tuition assistance and other on site course offerings are available and usually approved. Many good people over many geographies.

Cons

Rough place for sales and service people. Large disparity between hard workers and slackers in R&D. Way overworked to make up for people who work 10 to 5, and "vpn-in" after hours. Highly political culture. Want to be promoted? Schmooze to the numerous layers of management and kiss up to your boss. Practice subtle backstabbing and jealously defend your reputation. Hone your skills of interrupting others. Watch and learn from management.

Advice to Management

Need to pick one theme for the company vision and stick with it. Maybe the next CEO will do it.

    Pros

Growth, education, recognition. If you take advantage of the opportunities that present themselves, you'll do well. Know your audience in all aspects and understand that EMC (not unlike others) is a Sales driven company.

    Cons

Constantly "on." EMC hires very type A personalities with inherently strong work ethic. It's no wonder that people are always working and answering emails whether in the middle of the night or often during vacation. It's our nature.

    Pros

EMC might be better. But in data domain which is bought by EMC as Backup and replication section, it's just start-up without great stocks and free lunch. You have opportunities to work in diff areas as you like

    Cons

    unfriendly to immigration. mostly EB3
EMC only took over management and leave the rest as it is. No good integration. Lack of management. Managers compete for meat.
Freedom to try a lot. But if you make a mistake, EMC boston would not take efforts for good investigation but to blame.
Almost engineer with 2-4 years experiences all left. The company is now running by fresh graduate and super seniors.

    Advice to Management

Try to learn some culture in Silicon Valley. It's a immigration based industry. Not boston whiteman style. If you don't offer competitive management, you are ruining the companies you bought.
