I have been working at EMC part-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Flexible working hours. Management made sound financial decisions during difficult financial times (2009). Instead of a layoff, they cut all salaries temporarily until the economic outlook improved. Decent benefits including ESPP. Vacation accrual is fair, especially for employees in California.

Cons

EMC has an east coast corporate culture. It doesn't provide the same level of legal support for foreign nationals who are seeking H1B visas as its west coast based competitors. There appears to be some disparity between employee perks in different divisions. Internet security on VPN is too stringent. Outlook is the only supported e-mail application. I would prefer to use Mozilla Thunderbird.

Advice to Management

More transparency into management decisions.

I worked at EMC full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people to work with. The management team was always there to escalate issues to ensure our team and customer was taken care of. Great benefits as well.

    Cons

I had to travel pretty much 75% of the time. I went into the job knowing this but it does take its toll on you over time.

    Advice to Management

I think they did a great job!

I have been working at EMC full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

IIG division: Big company, very nice talented people. Highly skilled professionals in technical roles.

    Cons

IIG division: lack of clear vision and direction. Lame upper management. Lots of good engineers leaving these past years.

    Advice to Management

Make a decision, good or bad, and stick with it for longer than 2 years and a single release.
If it's a good decision, you win.
If it's a bad one, execute it so it becomes good.
