Pros

The company offers flexible work hours/location - could telecommute once a week and start late, leave late on other days to beat traffic. Offers good large company benefits, though time-off could be better. Lot of coporate benefits available at head quarters in Boston, not in bay area.

Cons

Too silo'ed, corporate head quarters in east coast is like different company. With the new software acquisitions, in different places, info aleays has to flow bottom-top-bottom. Not much lateral communication.

Advice to Management

improve transparency in decision making, delegate. management jobs seem to get guaranteed promotions senior, group /director levels; but no such luck for Technical ladder.

    Pros

first job out of college so nothing great. One thing good about working at emc is you get to work from home. There is cubes or anything but your own home office. I think this is one of the best thing working at emc. Besides this, nothing great I could think of.

    Cons

Pay is not great compare to how many hours you work. 60hr/wk. At the begining, they tell you alot of good things at EMC during the hiring process. But, one you get in, you have no where to go. Mngt is always trying to make you do work at night, weekend and during vacation.

    Advice to Management

More recognition. When people work hard, they need to be recognized instead of mngt.

    Pros

Lots of horizontal movement potential. No matter what you become interested in, there is a place at EMC for you. EMC also has a good name that will be an asset to you in your career no matter where you go.

    Cons

Lots of outsourcing to India that you might have to deal with. The company suffers from "not born here" syndrome. Some of these internal tools are a pain to work with. The IT and Security people often suck at their jobs. IT thinks that having winamp installed will cause my computer to not be able to connect to a network share. Security can't figure out how to get rid of viruses in a timely manner.

    Advice to Management

Many of them need to work on speaking skills and trying to get rid of their sometimes strong accents.
