Pros

Group dinners, activities, networking make getting to know people throughout the firm easier and a good culture. Being a part of the Financial Services team, many projects are NYC area based so travel is minimal but occasional if you are interested.

Cons

Ranks and tasks are very political and not always skill-based. Many there try to find the best skills to make the best product but there are some weaker links that can be frustrating. Compensation is not equivalent to experience outside of consulting.

I have been working at EY full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nice people as a whole (especially at manager level and below). Opportunity to grow quickly if you want to pursue a career as an auditor. Defined career path. Good name. Okay pay.

    Cons

TONS of red tape to get in the way of you doing your job. Serious lack of communication between all levels of the company. They hire tons of new Information System and Computer Science majors into their recently developed TAP "rotational" progam, tell them they will be working on a variety of different IT consulting projects and stick nearly all of them in IT audit. Very limited to no opportunites to get on engagements in their strategic technology, performance improvement, predictive analytics, information security practices etc especially if you are not working in the NY office.

Extremely unrewarding work. It is more about how much and not how well you can do. While its not the worst out there, little work life balance especially in the busy season.

My advice to people looking to join EY: make sure you know that THIS IS AN ACCOUNTING FIRM. If you want to pursue a career as an auditor, this may very well be a good place for you. If you are looking for a consulting position, my advice would be to look elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Be honest throughout the interview process and make sure prospective candidates know exactly what type of work they are getting into.
