Pros

Selling the best product in the document management world. Xerox and Konica Minolta are the best. Never have to bring work home. You work 8-4:30 (maybe 5), but most managers split by 4pm so you can leave right after. If you are looking for a entry level job, this is perfect. you go through a pretty decent training program although you are required to start selling even before your training is complete. you are thrown to the wolves in a sense. Salary isn't terrible again for a beginning rep. $36,000 salary + $8,000 (car allowance). The managers are great people but are totally burnt tout from the ridiculous reporting requirements from the Pres and VP's. Any innovative idea gets shot down. And god forbid something costs money... The managers work hard to make the reps happy and will help in anyway.

Cons

It starts and ends with Senior Management - Led by Bill Gage the President who only surrounds himself with YES men. VP's who only tell him things he wants to hear. Senior leadership will NEVER EVER help you with a customer or deal. Guess its too much work to leave the ivory tower. They are stuck in the 1980's thinking that cold calls and no advertising is the way to gain new customers. Visit the website and you will see how pathetic this company is in terms of marketing. The commission structure is horrible. The only way to make money is to sell your product on special contract pricing to guarantee profit. If you try and use the pricing provide by the company you will never win a competitive deal. The senior management has made sure that if you sell a copier at low cost, they (the company has already made their profit) but the rep makes nothing. You are beaten on a weekly basis to make 75 phone calls a week and an extremely unreasonable about of physical cold-calls to customers. Getting deal paperwork created is a nightmare with our 2005 CRM System. Territories are created with no real logic or understanding. New reps spend their 1st 3 months spinning in circles. Quotas are a magical formula that the President and VP's will never explain how they were assigned. Turnover is off the charts. in 2015 the company has 55 or so sales position in the 5 offices. This year there have been over 30 reps leave. more than a few started and quit in 6 months. Service (Great techs and managers) is totally hamstrung to really help our customers. The bean counters are in control. Supplies are controlled by the worse bean counter ever. Supplies is instructed not to send items to customers near the end of months/quarters in order for the department/company to meet their goals. The company only cares about customers when they are going to sign a new deal. NET NEW NET NEW is all you hear. Tell them you are losing a customer, they ignore it and then blame the rep

Pros

Colleagues, Reps, Management were all willing to help if you ask respectfully. Independent work schedule if you are good with time management and a bit of a road warrior. Travel was never more than 1-1.5 hours from your office. Can be lucrative as a top performer in sales making six-figures.

Cons

No dedicated onsite assistance with training and installs for new sales reps. HOWEVER, take the time to ask internal IT that remotes in during an install and learn. Take down notes. If you have the ability to learn technical things, you will be a top performer, if you give it time. You will be comfortable and confident in front of any customer. Depending on which office you are in, the level of tenure and willingness to help someone new vary.

Pros

Good entry level sales opportunity. If you can prove yourself in the office technology space, it opens doors to higher paying sales jobs. Depending on your manager, you will have the flexibility to work how you want to- within reason as long as you're making your number. Don't take work home with you. Some great co-workers.

Cons

Low base pay- 36k may be alot in Syracuse or Rochester, but in Albany/HV, its a struggle to get by. Every year when sales start to slump, micromanaging goes into full effect, and your weekly prospecting numbers are looked at very closely.

We appreciate you taking the time to write a review about your previous employment at EMPN. We are certainly invested in our employees and as we continue to grow, are always looking for more ways to help our reps sell. We would have welcomed any suggestions on how we could provide our sales team with the best possible tools and the last thing we want to do is take away from sales. Again, thank you for your feedback. Please be aware that this has been shared and discussed with the entire senior leadership team.
