I worked at EchoStar as an intern (More than 3 years)

Pros

Great work environment. Friendly employees. Excellent learning opportunity. Excellent pay for an intern ($15/hr as a junior in college)

Cons

I really can't think of anything bad about this job. Occasionally there is downtime with nothing to do except look busy.

Advice to Management

None.

I have been working at EchoStar full-time

    Pros

Great views of grey cubical walls filled with broken dreams.

    Cons

-Management has no clear vision of product.
-Customer dictates features as well as implementation.
-Constant revolving door of talent leaving.
-Contentious attitude/relationship with customer (DISH) that results in terrible finished products you can't be proud of.
-Customer has no clear vision for the product and simply chases the latest shiny object seen on competitor's products. Has no interest when presented with new ideas from our design or R&D department if it's not something the competition isn't already doing. Short story: followers not innovators.
-No support from our management to help push or jump start true innovation, only support to further implement the customer's bad ideas/will.
    -Terrible Health Coverage.
    -Mediocre 401k
    -Require Overtime.
    -Micromanaging upper management.

    Advice to Management

Trust the people you hire to do their job, and spend your time keeping the team happy and challenged instead of trying to micromanage. Also, reward innovation, and stop turning the customer into the enemy.
