I worked at Ecology and Environment full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Hands off management. They secured the contract, hired us, and left us alone.

Cons

We were very far removed from their offices, so support was slow

Advice to Management

A little more support for distant employees

I have been working at Ecology and Environment full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you get to work with a small, dedicated team, it's great. You get to get away from all the bureaucracy and drama. Work-life balance isn't all that bad and if you're lucky, you have some sort of autonomy.

    Cons

Bureaucracy is a huge challenge to getting work done. Nepotism really ruins employee morale. Lack of timely raises is also a pretty huge problem, not to mention there are no bonuses whatsoever or any real perks. I agree with another review here, the upper management in my geography does very little marketing (and they little they do is worthless as they don't win many contracts) so you often have to fend for yourself and find yourself some billable work. The current software they switched to that calculates your billable time and is supposed to help you manage your projects (SAP) is an absolute nightmare and a lot of overhead time is spent on trying to make it work or just figure it out.

    Advice to Management

Learn to appreciate your employees and recognize those who are actually working hard. And please fire those who just show up to work to breathe oxygen while pretending to get work done. Also, if you're going to make huge changes in the IT infrastructure, try it out with a small sample first and don't expect your entire workforce to still give you amazing utilization-- I'm not sure E&E's execs understand the extent of the damage SAP has caused.
